Club de Fútbol Monterrey is constantly striving to care for the environment and implement best practices to be a sustainable and eco-friendly Club.
In 2024, Estadio BBVA was awarded the LEED Gold Certification in Operations and Maintenance by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Rayados’ home is the first stadium in Latin America to receive the LEED Gold Certification.
The venue had previously earned LEED Silver Certification in 2016 for its construction, thanks to the use of environmentally friendly materials, low environmental impact, and high energy performance. At that time, it was also the first stadium in Latin America to achieve such recognition.
The LEED Gold Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an international certification system that recognizes sustainable buildings for their environmental performance.
The certification evaluates five key areas:
Energy efficiency
Improved indoor environmental quality
Sustainable water management
Reduction of environmental impact
International value and recognition
Some of the benefits offered by the stadium—and which led to the international certification—include healthier and more productive spaces, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower operational costs and waste, and energy and resource savings.
BBVA Stadium will host 4 matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026, making this distinction a testament to its leadership and best practices as a world-class venue ahead of the most prestigious tournament in global football.
Pedro Esquivel, Executive Vice President of the Club, expressed that beyond pursuing top sporting achievements, the institution is committed to creating value for the community.
“This milestone in the history of our Club and in the country’s football landscape makes us proud and strengthens our commitment to caring for, maintaining, and offering a Stadium that delivers a world-class experience to its fans and community, just as a sustainable venue should,” he said.
The certification is of great significance for both the Club and the Stadium, as it establishes leadership in the sustainable construction industry, validates achievements through an external review process, and provides international exposure to the project, which will also serve as a case study.
