Rebeca Bernal scored a stunning goal to give México a 1-0 win over host Chile and Mexican Women's National Team’s first gold medal at the Pan American Games.

 The captain of Rayadas took a free kick from the corner of the box to help the Mexican Women's National Team beat the Chilean team in the Final of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 held at the Elías Figueroa Stadium in Valparaíso, Chile.

Alejandría Godínez was also part of the Mexican Women's National Team that won the gold medal and achieved the historic achievement. The Rayadas goalkeeper did not participate in the match.

Mexican Women's National Team, coached by Pedro López, finished the competition with a perfect record, winning all five matches played. 

Rebeca Bernal finished the tournament with all the minutes played in the five matches played by the Mexican team, in addition to scoring the winning goal in the Final and the comeback goal in the Preliminary match, both against the Chilean National Team.

In previous editions, México had won a silver medal and three bronze medals.
