RAYADOS BEATS CHIVAS IN GUADALAJARA!

Rayados defeated Chivas 2-1 at the Estadio Akron, in Matchday 7 of the Apertura 2023. 

The team coached by Fernando Ortiz had a strong start of the match and Sergio Canales scored his first goal in Liga BBVA MX.

Rogelio Funes Mori had the first chance of the match at minute 5, when he headed a cross from Jesús Gallardo, but the ball went over the goal.

Jordi Cortizo made a great play and passed to Rogelio Funes Mori, who, with his back to the goal, assisted Sergio Canales. The Spaniard, on the edge of the box, shot and scored his first goal in the Liga BBVA MX.

Jonathan Padilla took Chivas’ first shot in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just wide of Esteban Andrada’s goal.

After a corner kick taken by Maxi Meza in the 32nd minute, Stefan Medina headed the ball into the hand of Cristian Calderón. After a VAR review, the referee awarded Monterrey a penalty kick.

With a powerful shot to Jiménez’s lower left corner, Sergio Canales made the penalty kick effective and scored his brace.

In the second half, Rayados looked to extend their lead and, despite Chivas getting closer on the score, the Rayados managed to win the match. 

Sebastián Vegas made a great defensive play at minute 50, when he prevented a goal with a sweep after a cross shot by Ricardo Marín. 

At minute 58, Roberto Alvarado sent the ball into the back of the net with a header, however, after reviewing the play in the VAR, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

After a Cristian Calderón cross from the left flank, Ricardo Marín headed home the first goal for Chivas.

 

Esteban Andrada was the hero at minute in 83, making a spectacular save to deflect a shot by Juan Brigido for a corner kick. 

With this result, the Rayados reached 10 points and are now in eighth place in the season standings.

Next week's match will be a FIFA Date and Monterrey will host León at the Estadio BBVA on Saturday, September 16, at 7:00 pm.
