Rayados defeated the Portland Timbers 1-0 this Friday at Providence Park to advance to the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup.

Monterrey played with great intensity and managed to take the lead almost at the end of the first half.

At 19', Santiago Moreno set up Franck Boli, who cut back to Víctor Guzman and shot across to goal, but the ball went just wide of Esteban Andrada's goal.

Minutes later, Jordi Cortizo opened up for Luis Romo, who passed to Maxi Meza, but a Portland defense cut him off.

In stoppage time, Luis Romo opened up for Maxi Meza, who from the edge of the box rifled the ball into the corner.

In the second half, Portland went forward and Rayados took advantage of the spaces.

At minute 60, Luis Romo made a breakaway and filtered for German Berterame, but a defender dodged to keep out the danger.

Six minutes later, Maxi Meza entered the area and chipped the goalkeeper, but the ball hit the post!

In the Round of 16, Rayados will face the winner of tonight's match between Vancouver Whitecaps and Tigres.
